Meet Michelle
I am running for Newark City Council to ensure Ward 7 has strong, responsive leadership during this time of pivotal change in our community. Public service has always been my driving force. As your elected representative on the State Board of Education from 2021-2024, I represented over 1 million Ohioans across 17 counties, advocating tirelessly for public schools, the students they serve, and supporting teachers and administrators. Now, I’m turning my focus homeward and bringing my experience, determination, and passion to represent Ward 7 on Newark City Council.
Throughout my career, I have built connections, developed impactful strategies, and championed resources to create meaningful change benefitting individuals and organizations. I am ready to bring that same energy and commitment to serve you and our community on City Council.
You may know me from my time as director of the Canal Market District between 2018-2022 where I continued to grow our farmers market and supported small businesses, expanded access to fresh food, and helped drive the vibrant development of our downtown—creating spaces that serve both residents and visitors.
For nearly a decade, I ran my own marketing and web design company where I partnered with small businesses, municipalities, and nonprofits throughout Licking County that allowed me to see first hand the challenges and opportunities facing business owners, nonprofit leaders, and elected officials.
In 2022, I joined a local bank to lead their marketing efforts, helping rural communities across central and southeast Ohio access financial tools to strengthen neighborhoods and families.
On a personal note, I’m a single mom to an incredible 11-year-old daughter who attends Liberty Middle School. She stays busy performing with the school band and participating in musicals at the Weathervane Theatre Academy. As a family, we love staying active—whether it’s walking in our neighborhood, exploring Licking County’s parks and trails, or enjoying activities at the YMCA. I’m also an avid cyclist and runner who completed Ironman Chattanooga in 2015. I believe strong sidewalks, trails, and road access not only promote healthier lifestyles but also build a stronger, more connected community for all.
